Icy highways blamed for 5 crashes

WINNIPEG — Icy highways have caused five crashes on the outskirts of the city, RCMP say.

The most dangerous stretch of highway is between Highway 59 and McPhillips, where four vehicles have crashed tonight, Headingley RCMP Cpl. Larry Dalman said. “It’s horrible,” he said.

Another car skidded off the off ramp on the Perimeter Highway at Portage Avenue .

Changes in the weather are only going to make commuting on the highway worse, Dalman said.

“When the weather changes so do the roads,” he said.
