THE Press Council of Cambodia (PCC) said Wednesday that it plans to send a letter to the Interior Ministry requesting a pardon for imprisoned journalist Ros Sokhet, who is serving a two-year sentence for spreading disinformation by sending disparaging text messages to a well-known media personality.
Relatives of Ros Sokhet had petitioned the council to intervene in the case. His sister, Ros Rada, said she met with the council on Wednesday because she had heard that it “wants to help my brother”.
Ek Visarakhun, secretary general of the PCC, said it had monitored Ros Sokhet’s case since his arrest, and that members had been eager to meet his family. He added that the letter that will be sent to the Interior Ministry is still being drafted.
Phnom Penh Municipal Court sentenced Ros Sokhet to two years in prison for spreading disinformation by sending the text messages to Soy Sopheap, the publisher of Deum Ampil News and a commentator for Bayon TV.
