LONG BEACH, Calif. -- A Long Beach doughnut shop owner who sold a Mega Millions lottery ticket worth $133 million was himself rolling in dough Saturday.
Even though Kevin Thai only gets a half of 1 percent of the total, that still comes to $655,000.
"That's a really big one," he said this morning from his County Donut shop at 3200 E. Anaheim Street near Long Beach's Cambodia Town.
A Mega Millions ticket sold at his store that matched all six numbers is worth a whopping $133 million, but the purchaser has yet to surface.
"I got the call this morning," Thai said. "They woke me up. It's so exciting. I'm so proud of it."
The drawing was the 10th since the last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold. A ticket with all six numbers for the Jan. 29 draw was sold in Texas and was worth $144 million.
This was the first time a ticket with all six numbers had been sold since lotteries in 22 states and the District of Columbia joined the 12 states where the Mega Millions game had previously been played in a cross-selling agreement between Mega Millions and Powerball that went into effect Feb. 1.
The odds of matching all five numbers and the Mega number is 1 in 175,711,536, according to the Mega Millions Web site.
The numbers drawn Friday night were 11, 31, 34, 44, 52 and the Mega number was 32.
Seven tickets - two sold in New Jersey and one each in Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota and New York - had five numbers, but didn't have the Mega number and are each worth $250,000. The jackpot for Tuesday's draw will be $12 million.
California Lottery officials reminded the public that borrowing money to play the lottery, spending above a person's budget or using money intended for other purposes can ultimately lead to significant problems for players and their families.
