Cambodia, Thai troops exchange fire+

PHNOM PENH, Jan. 30 (AP) - (Kyodo)—Cambodian and Thai troops exchanged gunfire briefly on Friday, the Cambodian government said Saturday.Gen. Chhum Socheat, spokesman of the National Defense Ministry, toldKyodo News that the exchange happened around 10 p.m. Friday at the Veal Veng district bordering Thailand's Trat Province.
He said he received information that one Thai solider was killed and a few others wounded, but no report of any casualties from the Cambodian side.
Chhum Socheat said he received no clear information of the motivation for the clash.
Keo Sokunthea, deputy police commissioner of Pursat Province who is in charge of border issues, said the exchange of fire happened after about 20 Thai soldiers fired at Cambodian soldiers.
It is the second border clash following one last week near a disputed border area.
Since the border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand began in 2008, several rounds of military clashes have occurred that have left several people dead and injured on both sides.
